The grand old ship, Brave Lady, has finally been unloaded today. It's many treasures included beautiful oriental carpets, china of all sorts and, of course, many containers of tea. The master of scrimshaw, Percy Nelson, has new pieces of ivory to carve into fanciful designs. The Mary Rose holds all things ladies love to purchase. Tomorrow will bring great activity to the chandlery as supplies are sought to fill Brave Lady for its coming voyage. People share greetings and the two cats observe it all. "I love the old ships of yesterday and so enjoy painting anything related to them - especially seaside villages. It truly is amazing to me, that a young man in his twenties could build a ship, sail it to China, fill it with wonderful treasures and arrive safely on American Shores, while using only the simplest navigational instruments." ..... CAPTAIN MITCHELL AND LITTLE LUCY

Yet another ship has arrived from China filled with treasures. Old Captain John Mitchell has come to the dock to observe the activities. Little Lucy has caught his attention by proudly showing him the first fish she has caught. Another old captain and his young friend rest against the shipping crates, watching a wagon being loaded. Even Mary Rose and Lily have given it all their full attention. Perhaps someone will drop a tasty morsel. One never knows! "This oil was such fun to paint - causing me to use my imagination and a great deal of detail. Again, the ships, docks and ocean really interest me. I love the stance of the old sea captain and little Lucy. Of course, my two little dogs, Mary Rose and Lily entered the painting. I know them so well it was easy to quickly paint them, really capturing their attitudes." ... Linda

CHRISTMAS IS COMING

Excitment abounds up and down the streets of Bellevill Knotch - CHRISTMAS IS COMING. Villagers scurry about greeting each other, peek in shop windows and stop for a cup of hot chocolate. Gingerbread men are special treats. Children pull a full sled complete with gifts. Mary Rose, a charming spaniel loves the ride. Two ladies greet an elderly gentleman who carries a dolly in a box he'll give to his little grandaughter. A father goes shopping with his daughter while two dogs wearing their winter coats look on. "CHRISTMAS IS COMING was used on the cover of my 2009 calendar. Christmas paintings are really such fun for me to create. I never tire of painting them. I hope I convey the excitement, friendship and joy represented by the holiday season. Then, I have to add lots of candles in the windows and paint the whole scene in jewel-tone colors. And last, but certainly not least of all, I always add a country church - just so the true meaning of Christmas is not forgotten!" ... Linda

It is a hot July Fourth and the children are marching to honor our country. Billy carries the old family flag, Hazel pulls her wagon filled with her dog George who is not too happy about wearing the hat. Freddy is making plenty of noise beating his old drum and Minnie pulls her two little sisters in the wagon while she toots her brass horn. Little John peeks from behind a tree, holding his Teddy bear for comfort, while young Frank sits in the tree waving patriotic colors. Even the family of cattle stop to honor the waving flag while the wise old owl looks on. LET'S CELEBRATE THE FOURTH! "It was such fun to paint the children parading down a dusty, country road. Red white and blue always add charm, as well as the big eagle painted on the barn. Even the balloon is proudly displaying its patriotic colors." ... Linda
